The day of ABC’s second meeting for the 2013 fall semester, members old and new gathered to hear the club updates and await the wonderful guest speakers lined up. President Bria Turner and Vice President Wilborn Nobles informed members of the upcoming October 8th deadline for dues, announced the new blog was active and discussed the three new committees that had been added to ABC’s agenda. These committees are Social Media/Digital Media, Event Communications and Advertising.

After refreshments were served, President Bria Turner introduced the guest speakers, both members of BRAABJ, WAFB Web Producer Michelle McCalope and Andrew Nomura.

Michelle McCalope gave a very encouraging speech on her background and how she worked her way up in the media world. Michelle discussed how she went from writing stories for Ebony Magazine, Jet Magazine, People Magazine and Oprah’s “O” Magazine to news reporting and now web producing. Her main message of the night to students was to “Be fearless!”

WAFB Reporter Andrew Nomura, a California native, gave an inspiring speech on how he worked hard during college, with numerous jobs and internships, to get to where he is now. He made it a point to stress to students that you never need to stop working and establishing new goals.

ABC is a student organization in the Manship School striving to establish a strong union among black students pursuing communications.
